MOUNTAIN FLYING TRAINING

To further mitigate risk in mountain flying training, prospective clients must meet the following prerequisites:

• Private Pilot License or higher
• Instrument rating 
• Current Medical
• Current BFR
• 300 hours PIC
• 50 hours in the last 6 months
• 8 hours in the 30 days prior to course start date
• 3 take-offs and landings (same make/model as aircraft brought to  course) in the 30 days prior to course start date
• Personal survival kit (confirmed clients will receive a recommended pack list)

Typically, clients bring their own aircraft to New Mexico for these courses.

Candidate aircraft must meet the following prerequisites:

• Part 23 certified aircraft ONLY (no experimentals or homebuilts)
• Standard Airworthiness Certificate
• To be accepted for our courses, the engine on a piston single must produce 180hp or more, at sea level. 
• Aircraft should be capable of producing a climb rate of at least 300-500 fpm at sunrise at KAEG (Elev 5380' MSL) with 2-3 hours fuel, plus a 1-hour fuel reserve, while carrying 2 pilots and their gear.

• Part 23 certified aircraft ONLY (no experimentals or homebuilts)
• Standard Airworthiness Certificate
• Multi-Engine piston aircraft must be capable of a climb rate of at least 200 fpm under the same conditions as those listed above for the singles, but with one engine inoperative. 
• Multi-engine piston aircraft must also be capable of a 1,000' AGL single-engine service ceiling under the conditions listed above.

 Formation flying is challenging, fun, and can further mitigate risk in the backcountry. A wingman provides mutual support en-route, a ready back-up airplane if lead is unable to depart an intermediate stop, and needed assistance in the unfortunate event of an incident or accident. 

We can arrange a second aircraft to support solo clients or add a second CFI for paired clients who each bring their own plane. The formation option will add an additional day to cover formation fundamentals before clients proceed, in formation, through the standard advanced course syllabus. 

For paired clients, the price for this option is an additional $950 per client. In the event a second aircraft is required, additional aircraft rental charges will apply. Solo clients desiring formation training should call to discuss pricing.

 For those pilots based in the Western US who are looking to "kill two birds with one stone," we can come to you. We'll provide the classroom instruction in the location of your choice, then accompany you on a flight(s) to Albuquerque to continue the training. As we transit mountainous terrain enroute, we will get a head start on completing the skills development portion of the course. Depending on your location, this option could potentially reduce the total course length by up to a day by combining training and transit. Call for pricing.
